Concert Awesomeness

Fri May 26, 2006, 12:27 AM
the past 2 days have been filled with the musical goodness of indie concerts. Saw the Walkmen in New York, and Sunset Rubdown with Frog Eyes in Philly. Both shows were sweet beyond words.
Which was better?
Hard to say, the Walkmen show was just a no bullshit concert filled with continuous musical goodness as well as an occurance of indie concert mosh (almost unheard of, but usually happens wherever i go)
The Sunset Rubdown show was awesome because sometimes Spencer Kreug is in 3 bands, and sometimes all of them are ridiculous. Also sometimes you have to sing a song outside on the steps, have it heard by Spencer Kreug and then have him open the show by covering it.
Sometimes.

In a word both shows were RIDICULOUS. Fuck all you indie kids who think you're above dancing at shows, wherever I go you better believe its gonna be a dancefest. Music is beautiful and again it angers me that Deviant Art has no section for music. Because apparently music just does not fall under the catagory of art.

wow.. it would take a long time to upload/download a high audio-quality song to/from dA

actually not really. given that a decent quality mp3 format file for a radio edit would be about 3 mb, a full 10 minute song would be only around 8 mb. that's not that much considering the quality of the DA servers. I mean look how many files are currently up. that's ridiculous. also, its not just music, it would open up possibilities for other forms of art like spoken word pieces.

it would still take a significantly longer time, especially for people still on 56k, and then it wouldn't get as large an audience as images. a lot of writing goes unnoticed here because people don't have the patience/attention span to sit and read a couple paragraphs. for music they'd have to wait several minutes to download the thing, then several minutes to listen to it... and thievery/copyright violations would be another problem. the dA servers may be good.. i really don't know about that but they seem to be down/faulty a lot lol

regardless of audience size, i still think that people should be able to. it feels almost as if its not being considered art. i guess one could say the same thing about video and what not. whichever, its just lame that there isn't really any internet communities for one's own music. (myspace and all those bullshit band blogs don't count at all)

wow are there really none? :( I thought there were.. that's too bad. I know there are sites like youtube for video but they limit the size/quality of what you can put up. I know there are people on dA here who DO upload music, they just put it in a cheap flash animation so that the admins don't go and delete it (cf *kaykaykit )

there are sites for things, but nothing as centralized or as organized as deviant art. everything is basically a band blog and you have to manual find sites rather than being able to browse through stuff. its really lame

then maybe someone should make a directory of these sites... kind of like baidu.. have you been there? it's a search engine and you can find and download just about any chinese song on there. except that wouldn't fly with US artists haha

well in that situation there would be no organization of styles and things like that. besides, no one really does it with any intent of exposure. its basically for themselves to feed their attention needs with their friends. its basically a myspace with uploaded music
